It drags the arm behind
When the body opens early, the arm gets left behind and has to catch up, which both adds stress and throws off the release point.
It scatters command
An early-opening front side usually pulls the release across the body, so the ball sails arm-side or misses up. Wild is often a flying-open problem, not an aiming problem.
So a kid who flies open is leaving velocity on the table and fighting his control, and then often tries to muscle up to get the speed back, which opens him up even more. It's a frustrating loop, and it almost never fixes itself by trying harder. - The glove flying out. If his glove arm swings open and away instead of staying firm out front, the rest of the body follows it open. The glove side leads the whole front side.
- A soft or unstable front leg. If the front leg buckles or drifts instead of bracing at foot strike, there's nothing to rotate against, so the body spins open early. This is the front-leg brace doing its job or not.
