How to Film Your Pitching Video

A good video takes about a minute to set up. Follow these five guidelines and match the example below.

Step 1

Film from the side

Third-base side for a right-handed pitcher, first-base side for a lefty. The side view shows the full delivery clearly.

Step 2

Hold the phone sideways

Record in landscape, with the pitcher's full body in frame from head to feet for the entire motion.

Step 3

Stand about 15 to 20 feet away

Close enough that the pitcher fills most of the frame, directly to the side, with the rubber roughly centered.

Step 4

Use good light and a steady camera

Film outdoors or in a well-lit space. Prop the phone on a fence or tripod, or have someone hold it still.

Step 5

Capture one full pitch

Record at normal speed, from the start of the wind-up all the way through the follow-through.
